Research has long demonstrated the link between red meat consumption and an increased risk of developing atherosclerosis, a chronic inflammatory condition that results in the narrowing of the arteries. If atherosclerosis occurs in the heart arteries, it is called coronary atherosclerosis. If it occurs in the arteries that supply blood to the brain, it is called cerebrovascular atherosclerosis.
